सिक्ने सिकाउने हाम्रो अभियान :-

Every year on July 30, the International Day Against Human Trafficking is celebrated. This year, due to the epidemic of Kovid-19, government and non-government organizations have celebrated this day through online awareness programs to end human trafficking. The Day Against Human Trafficking has been observed in Nepal since 2064 BS to commemorate the day the SAARC Convention against Trafficking in Women and Children-2002, passed by the 11th SAARC Conference, was ratified by the then Legislature-Parliament. The government has implemented the Human Trafficking and Smuggling Control Act-2064 BS and Rules-2065 BS. The constitution also stipulates that no one can be trafficked or enslaved. But ironically! As we celebrate this day, the heinous crime of human trafficking is increasing every year. It is estimated that more than 20,000 women and children are trafficked in Nepal every year. Trafficking in girls has been a major social problem in Nepal for years. Nepali girls are being sold from Indian brothels to Gulf countries and Africa by showing various temptations. It is unfortunate that girls and human beings continue to be trafficked in the 21st century.

According to a statistic, around 20,000 women and children are trafficked every year. One woman is trafficked every 26 minutes. Thousands of girls are rescued every year from being trafficked. News of the rescue of hundreds of prostitutes involved in prostitution in Indian apartments also highlights the problem of trafficking in girls. Maiti Nepal, KI Nepal, Three Angels Nepal, WOREC Nepal, Shakti Group and other organizations have been publishing news from various quarters to reduce the trafficking of girls. However, despite various programs to stop the trafficking of girls, human trafficking has become the main challenge. The human trafficking network is not limited to India.

There is a growing tendency to engage in the forced sex trade in the Gulf and African countries due to the temptation of foreign employment. According to statistics, 300,000 women who have been brought to the Middle East countries by the gang by showing economic temptation to poor women are forced to do menial work. Taking advantage of poverty and deprivation, gangs have been found selling human beings in the name of employment. Not only women are being trafficked due to illiteracy and lack of awareness, but also educated young women are being trafficked due to financial temptation. The main reason for human trafficking is the rising unemployment problem in the country. In the process of finding various livelihood options, girls fall prey to criminals.

Nepal is plagued by the problem of human trafficking along with human trafficking. Yesterday, trafficking was referred to as Indian prostitution, but today it is being sold in the name of dance bars, cabin restaurants, massage centers, hotels and foreign employment in various cities including Kathmandu. The number of human trafficking cases in Nepal Police is increasing every year. The rescue of a woman trafficked to Nepal by traffickers to Nigeria, Kenya and Iraq confirm the widespread network of criminals. Lately, women have been sold in the entertainment sector like dance bars, massages and casinos. No one wants to sell for a living, but in the pursuit of an opportunity, trusting a broker can lead to unintended consequences. The state has not been able to launch a concrete campaign due to the dire situation of trafficking. There is a legal provision of 20 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 200,000 for human trafficking. In view of the recent insecurity of women by relatives and acquaintances, every local level should spread awareness about trafficking and the legal system in schools, mothers' groups, toll development, cooperatives and organizations. In addition, it is necessary to conduct campaigns such as skill-based programs for women, counseling on financial gain, and vigilance training on awareness-raising.
