Martyrs Day is celebrated every year on Magh,16(January 29).Martyrs week is Magh 10-16(January23-29). Today,various programmes have been organised across the country to remember four most important Martyrs of Nepal.
They are as follows: Shukraraj Shastri,Dharma Bhakta Mathema,Dasharatha Chanda and Gangalal Shretha are the four Martyrs who gave up their lives to free the country from the tyranny of Rana autocracy and start democratic tradition .Shukraraj was hanged from a tree near pachali of Teku on Magh 10,1997BS, while Dharma Bhakta was hanged in Sifal on Magh 13 and Dashrath Chanda and Gangalal were shot at Shobha Bhagawati on Magh 15 by the then autocratic Rana rulers . Every year ,Magh 16 in the Nepali calendar is marked as the National Martyrs Day.(Note:Gajendra Narayan Singh,the Madhesi Martyr and Nepali activisist of 20th century .)
