Every year, natural disasters cause landslides in the hills and inundation in the lowlands. Hundreds of lives have been lost and billions of rupees have been lost due to floods and inundation, but neither the state nor the people are responsible. Lately, loss of life and property has been taking place due to man-made natural calamities. Frequent monsoon rains have blocked roads in various parts of the country and caused floods and landslides in Provinces No. 1, 2, Bagmati, Gandaki and Far West, causing human casualties and destruction of physical infrastructure. A series of encroachments on the physical infrastructure and canals built in the name of development caused flood damage to the settlement. Natural disasters cannot be faced. However, the damage caused by natural disasters can be minimized by preventing deforestation and encroachment of rivers. Every year, long-term plans should be formulated and implemented to address the potential risks by learning about the disasters caused by the exploitation of nature. Since the onset of monsoon, the country has suffered a huge loss of life and property. At least 101 people have been killed and 32 others have gone missing since the onset of the monsoon, according to the home ministry.

According to the latest data, 19 districts have been affected by floods and landslides. Of these, 27 people have lost their lives in the landslide in the most affected Myagdi district alone. Similarly, three people have been killed and 20 others are missing in Sindhupalchowk. Similarly, nine people have died in Kushma and Jajarkot districts. Seven people have lost their lives in Kaski. Security forces rescued hundreds of people. Disaster relief is simply to prevent human casualties. Only timely preparation and awareness can reduce the loss of life and property. The destiny of people to lose their lives every year due to natural calamities is not only tragic but also ironic. The economic damage caused by the disaster is another misfortune. Due to which the development of the country is not only affected, it also affects the new construction. For a country like ours, which has limited resources and resources, the added economic burden of post-disaster reconstruction every year is a matter of further concern. The country cannot stand on the chain of spending a large part of the budget on unmanaged development every year in the name of economic prosperity and turning development into destruction due to natural calamities.

Recently, there has been a growing trend of using dozers/excavators in the name of road expansion. The problem of landslides in the hills and inundation in the Terai has been caused by the indiscriminate digging of roads and exploitation of the Chure without geological study/research. The mountains are becoming dry and desolate due to uncontrolled encroachment on nature to meet the budget. As a result, disasters have become a disaster in the rainy season. The disaster caused by weak topography has shocked the countrymen. We are causing floods and landslides due to internal reasons such as human weakness, deforestation and encroachment of canals. Despite the problems of floods and inundation in Nepal every year, disaster preparedness is not promising. All the states are facing the same problem. Rainfall forecasts alone do not reduce risk. Because of the inability to prepare for disasters such as relocating those living in risky areas to safer places and arranging temporary accommodation, huge loss of life and property was caused. At this time, it is the duty of the government to protect the livelihood of the people. Learning lessons from this disaster, it is necessary to focus on reducing risk by ending man-made deforestation and river encroachment that will lead to future disasters.
